A man for finals, he again showed his class. The Ivorian who made it count in the end. 116 minutes into the match and still there was not a goal scored. Then, in a moment of magic, and with just four minutes of extra-time remaining, Didi latched on to a... Full Article at Rediff

I think we did what we had to do in the summer, we brought in a goalkeeper to replace Edwin van der Sar. We brought Ashley Young in because he’s a player who can play in several positions and has a little bit of experience in terms of his time at Aston Villa.
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has praised his successor to the Old Trafford number one spot, David de Gea. The young Spanish ‘keeper was heavily criticised soon after his arrival at the Red Devils and his position as first choice... Full Article at Give Me Football
Sir Alex Ferguson was determined not to go through the same mess that ensued when he tried to replace Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Ten goalkeepers and around £18m spent failed to adequately replace the Great Dane. Finally, in 2005, Van der Sar was... Full Article at Manchester Evening News
VAN DER SAR hopes the repeated comparisons to his own stellar Manchester United career do not become too much of a burden for David de Gea. After a difficult start to his time at United, De Gea just about ended on the positive side of the ledger, even... Full Article at The Daily Post

He will be right up for it. He's had challenges over the last 26 years against various teams and he beat them, he got down to them and he diminished them and he's going to do the same with City
It was 0-0, we had a fairly inexperienced team and Lee Cattermole gave away a penalty — for handball not for a tackle. Ruud van Nistelrooy took it and I managed to save it. I exchanged jerseys with Edwin van der Sar at full time, another hero of mine.
I saw him coming up during my time at United and I was very impressed ... I know he's not really a local boy, but he did come through the youth set-up. He seems to have grown bigger and got stronger. De Gea hasn't filled out yet and I know that they're working towards beefing him up through weight train...
We just had to hang in there. But then there's injuries we've had. We've not had the best luck this season - we've had injuries to key players such as (Nemanja) Vidic and (Darren) Fletcher. There was also the experience we've lost. Scholesy for half the season, Edwin van der Sar, John O'Shea, Wes Brown....
They've been playing without me all season and Nemanja got injured quite early on so they will be OK ... Along the way the younger players have stepped up their performances while the return of Paul Scholes was one of the turning points.
It would be huge (winning the title) when you look at the spending power Manchester City have, the injuries we've had, the experience we've lost — Scholesy (Paul Scholes) for half the season, Edwin van der Sar, John O'Shea, Wes Brown ... Then the challenge we faced bringing in a new goalkeeper — David d...
United went from a 40-year-old to a 21-year-old so I think it's only normal that De Gea made a couple of wrong judgments and had some adjustments to make because it's a different, more physical league with more corners

I think that Buffon is still the best goalkeeper in the world, and after him, during his career it was Edwin van der Sar. I think he can play until he is 40, though of course it depends on his form. Physically though he is in great shape.
People need to start giving him a little bit more credit. It’s not easy being 21 years old with an 18m pound price tag on your head, making a mistake or two and trying to replace Edwin van der Sar.
