Trainer Paul Nicholls enjoyed success in the biggest National of them all on Saturday, and we make Harry The Viking clear favourite to give the stable further big race success this weekend
We told Daryl to ride him like he did Neptune Collonges
I owe everything to Kieran ... But I always said to Paul Nicholls that I would ride a National winner for him and I have delivered.
I specially asked Graham if I could have him as I fancied the challenge
You cannot beat this. I have always told Paul Nicholls that someday I would ride him a National winner. It was very very tough race. I just kept my head down and kept going for all my worth. It was a massive, massive team effort and I'm very glad and lucky to be a part of it.
I think you'll be seeing those sort of battles between me and Nicky next season
The score is 2-2 and this is the decider, so let’s hope it’s a great race ... He is seriously well and everything has gone great. We’re happy where we are and Paul Nicholls is happy where he is, and I’d have been genuinely sad if Kauto Star came there and wasn’t at his best. Kauto Star thumped us two ti...
It's taken me two years to work out how to train him ... When he came from France he'd had problems with refusing to race and breaking blood vessels but we got his wind sorted out and he doesn't gallop at all now. He does an hour on the walker in the morning and another in the evening.
If ever I squeeze for a bit more, he gives a bit more. I don’t know how much is there because I’ve never got to the bottom of him ... Jumps horses have higher mileage, a greater injury rate and are harder to get fit. It’s an incredible performance by Paul Nicholls to keep getting him back here.
You can’t beat this. I was on a tough horse and I said to Paul that one day I would ride you a National winner. That was two years ago and now I’ve done it.
Jumps horses have higher mileage, a greater injury rate and are harder to get fit. It's an incredible performance by Paul Nicholls to get him back here so many times.
You wouldn’t believe he’s run four and a half miles, he hasn’t got a scratch on him
I suppose I do enjoy it ... There is pressure, of course, but compared to the likes of Willie (Mullins) or Paul Nicholls, who’d have runners in almost every race, I suppose it’s not too bad for the likes of me. I enjoy all the buzz, meeting good people after the racing, and all that, but I would still m...
He’s wonderful and ran very, very well, I couldn’t be happier. I wasn’t sure whether he’d get up and beat Sunnyhillboy but he did and it was fantastic — it was nerve-wrecking though.
It looks like the Champion Hurdle will probably cut up to no more than 12 runners as Willie Mullins and Paul Nicholls both have plenty of entries
It’s sad that instead of concentrating on the good things, and what a wonderful performance by the team in a wonderful race, the headlines have all been negative
I just want to enjoy the day. But, of course, if there is anything that can be done to improve the safety of the race then it should be done.
He's in top form. He got in at one o'clock. He ate all his grub up and is as sound as a pound this morning. He's very happy
We are always learning and we are going to keep learning and try to improve, anything we can do
They probably have better health care than we have
I know John has had to convince his wife Pat and daughter Lisa it was the right thing to do, entering Neptune Collonges for the race. All three of them adore their horses and after the experience with One Man, John needed time to convince the family.
That's seven championships now but it will be incredibly difficult to win another next year ... Neptune has now retired and with Denman gone and possibly Kauto Star as well, we've got to find some new ammunition for next season. I said to Nicky that I thought the championship was dead and buried for us ...
When you are in competitive sport, whatever you do, motor racing, hockey there is an element of risk
I wasn’t sure. Everyone told me he’d won, but I wasn’t sure. He’s the best horse we’ve run in the race — if it hadn’t been for Denman and Kauto he’d have won a Gold Cup [he was third behind them in the 2008 race]. What a brilliant ride. I am so chuffed for Daryl.
